Ithomi is a mountain on the north side of Messinia.

At the foothills of Ithomi, ancient Messene was built around the 4th century BC. There was a fort in Ancient Ithomi; ruins from the fort’s precinct are preserved to this day.

At the top of the mountain of Ithomi is today the monastery of Panagia Vulkanou.

The mountain was dedicated to Zeus Ithomatas. At the top of the mountain there was a sanctuary with an altar. The foundations of an Ionian temple with columns have been located in the area. The temple was dedicated to the goddess Artemis.

The fortress of Ithomi played an important role in the military conflicts between Messinians and Laconians.
